Song for the Revolution

I opened my eyes slowly in the morning light

And I fell down on my knees to pray

I saw the rage flaring in a mother’s eyes

Who’d seen her children blown away

And I prayed when

When will the bullets end

When will this sickness stop and a new earth begin

When will the people see

Lord when will they stand

Cause I heard heaven’s on the side of the revolution

I saw the greatest mind of my generation lost

To chemicals in the schools sold in the parking lots

I saw a government refuse to talk

To the protesters who were picketing on their sidewalks

And they screamed when

When will the bullet end

When will this sickness stop and a new earth begin

When will the people see

Lord when will they stand

Cause I heard heaven’s on the side of the revolution

And I broke down when that news came on

The lights of that TV and the media’s sad song

Well we go on

Because we’re stronger than Washington or the Pentagon

And I can see it in my mother’s eyes

In the vibrations I feel on the street

The saints they said the savior did rise

They felt him

They heard him speak

And she said, “There will be peace someday”
